BEFORE

The concrete walk looks tired, and overgrown shrubs hide the entrance; an old Silver Maple destroys the lawn and blocks the lake view across the street.

A blank slate, lacking charm and curb appeal; the concrete steps are too high and pose a tripping hazard on the way to the front door.

Overgrown shrubs look wild and block the windows on one side of the house; water settles at the bottom of the front step causing the sidewalk to sink.

Who would want to hang out back here (besides the dog)?

The hot afternoon sun makes this back patio uncomfortable and un-inviting.

The concrete slab off of the slider does not allow room to walk around the table and chairs; the existing landscaping does not compliment the vertical scale of the house.

AFTER

A pergola compliments the architecture of the home and frames the view of the lake; a widened paver walk is inviting from the street to the front door.

Lush plantings and a small paver patio create curb appeal and offer a restful place to sit; new front steps provide safer access to the front door.

Appropriate plant selection guarantees low-maintenance over time; a paver patio offers a relaxing spot for morning coffee; a step down from the sidewalk and re-grading solves the drainage problems.

The homeowners can now often be found in their outdoor room, complete with a sunken patio for the fireplace and a separate patio area for table and chairs.

The old pavers were re-used in the front yard (see 'after' photo at top of page); a pergola provides structure for flowering vines and a shady place to dine 'al fresco'.  A flagstone path provides access around the side of the home.

Two patio spaces provide separate areas for a fire-pit with built-in seating as well as a dining area to accommodate table and chairs.  The new landscaping provides color, texture, and a vertical element to balance the home's height.
